Practical experiences

The degree programme requires 10 weeks of prior work experience, including

    4 weeks of mechanical engineering

    4 weeks of wood processing

    2 weeks of carpentry training at the university.

Parts of the work experience can be waived in the case of corresponding qualifications/tuition.

Prior work experience can be completed up until the end of the 3rd semester!

This means students with no corresponding prior work experience can catch up on this during lecture-free periods up until the end of 3rd semester.

Students are to gain their initial experience of engineering work at a company during the practical semester. They will obtain insights into their future work through actual tasks and practical involvement in problem-solving.

The practical semester takes place in the 5th semester.

In principle, the practical semester is to be spent at wood processing companies or their machine suppliers. It can also be spent at institutes or planning offices for the wood industry. Companies that can offer a broad view of the industry are particularly suitable. Examples of these are:

• Companies operating in the furniture industry
• Manufacturers of parquet and laminate flooring
• Factories for window and door manufacturing
• Manufacturers of wood materials
• Manufacturers of machinery for the wood industry
• Sawmills with connected processing plants
• Companies producing wood components, goods or packaging
• Timber and raw timber merchants performing stages of processing
• Planning and consulting firms for the wood industry
• Wood research facilities
