About the degree programme
The Master's programme in Computer Science is designed to be application-oriented. The aim is to deepen and specialise knowledge in computer science and related fields on a scientific basis. On the basis of broad specialist knowledge with comprehensive methodological competence, analytical and creative skills for the development of problem-solving concepts as well as for the new construction and further development of systems consisting of hardware and software are to be taught and promoted. Graduates should be able to apply scientific methods and findings, also to complex problems in computer science, both in practice and in application-oriented research and development.
The following three fields of study are offered for specialisation:
- Applied Artificial Intelligence (AAI),
- SAP-based Business Applications (SAP)
- Software & Systems Engineering (SSE).
Through personal and professional profile building and the study contents of project management and leadership, you will be comprehensively prepared for management positions.
Study flexibly, customise individually
Study flexibly, customise individually
On our (German-language) Master's degree programme in Computer Science, you can design your studies flexibly: Opt for a full-time programme (three semesters) or choose a part-time programme (six semesters).
This gives you the opportunity to find the right study format for those who want to complete their studies quickly, as well as for those who need a more flexible study model due to professional or private commitments.
You can also opt for a degree programme with in-depth practical experience. The degree programme is aimed at students who are looking for a close connection to business and want to increase their career opportunities by gaining a direct insight into the world of work. [Details]
The flexibility of our degree programme allows you to switch between full-time and part-time study as required in order to adapt to changing life circumstances.
Regardless of the chosen study period, the same academic requirements and structures apply, so that a high quality and continuity of the educational pathway is guaranteed. (We describe what this can look like under "Programme content and structure").
Course content
Study overview
The Master's programme in Computer Science comprises three semesters and offers a lot of flexibility in the choice of subjects. Here is an exemplary course of study:
The basic modules of module group M2 each consist of two subjects prescribed in the curriculum for the chosen field of study. The modules of the specialisation subjects M1 can be selected from a subject pool, which also differs between the fields of study. In M3, either the seminar "Theoretical Computer Science" or the seminar "Special Business Administration" must be taken, depending on the field of study. The subject pool for the module groups M5 and M6 is the same for all fields of study; in M5 any offered subject can be chosen.
The range of modules is determined before the start of the semester and is subject to change. An overview of the modules currently offered and their assignment to the module groups can be found in the download box:
Note: Previous versions of this and the following documents can be requested from our degree programme coordinator, Ms. Ewelina Bischof.
Career Opportunities
Since our modern society is highly dependent on informatics, the career prospects are above average. Graduates of the Master's programme are able to solve complex informatics tasks in practice through independent and competent application of scientific knowledge and also to take on management tasks in the national and international environment. Access to the higher civil service is also open.
Typical occupational profiles for each field of study are listed below, for which you can qualify in the Master's programme depending on the subjects chosen:
Application and admission
