Delegation of Chinese university presidents visits Bavaria

On 17 July 2024, nine presidents, vice presidents, association and business representatives from China met with the Bavarian university presidents in Munich to discuss future cooperation projects, particularly with regard to student mobility. Prof Dr Andreas Heinzmann and business sinologist Tatjana Erlewein represented the President Prof Heinrich Köster on behalf of Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences.

Prof Dr Gordon Thomas Rohrmaier, Vice President of the Bavarian University Association, provided a good introduction by welcoming the delegation and presenting the 19 Bavarian member universities.

His counterpart Mr Yu Tao from the Shanghai University of Engineering and Science took over the introduction of the Chinese delegation: The trip took place as part of the CUIC (Chinese Application-Oriented Universities of International Cooperation). At the beginning of 2024, CUIC and the German association ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik e. V.) signed a joint declaration of intent with the declared aim of strengthening links between Chinese universities and their German and European counterparts.

Philip Dengel from BayChina was involved in organising the meeting and is delighted that face-to-face meetings are finally taking place again, which are of particular cultural importance for the development of Chinese partnerships. In addition, the Managing Director of the neoBay Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Community, Mr Liu Ning, fascinated the audience with his presentation of the Grand Neo Bay. The ‘Bay Area’ around Shanghai has been intensively developed into a science and technology innovation zone and China's Silicon Valley since Xi Jianping's directive in 2007.

An informative meeting with much agreement and plans for further meetings: the German university representatives left the meeting room with an invitation to visit Shanghai next year. If you are interested, please contact: Prof. Dr Andreas Heinzmann or Tatjana Erlewein
