Health, social change and well-being
This research focus examines various questions on the topic of the human being. The focus is on measures to maintain and regain health and a mental well-being, especially in a changing society.
Fields of competence involved
Within the planning region of South-East Upper Bavaria and the neighbouring districts with approx. 805,000 inhabitants, health care plays a very significant role. In the region there are about 40 acute hospitals, about 40 preventive care and rehabilitation facilities, 130 outpatient care services and 150 facilities for inpatient care for the elderly. New competence requirements are arising for the personnel employed in the health sector as well as for the further development of the educational offers and research fields of Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences.
The Faculty of Applied Health and Social Sciences deals with the field of health from different perspectives. The focus is on the promotion, maintenance and recovery of health and well-being in a changing society.
In particular, the perspective of different professions in the health sector, for example nursing, physiotherapy and also health care management, as well as their interdisciplinary interaction, characterise the field of health at TH Rosenheim. This is visible in our degree programmes and research projects.
Applied mathematics and statistics are fundamental tools that are used in the most diverse areas of scientific work and everyday business. For example, numerical and simulation methods form the basis of scientific computing, statistical and machine learning are an essential part of the subject complex of artificial intelligence, and mathematically-methodologically based, statistical data analysis is the key to sound research results.
The mathematics/statistics competence of TH Rosenheim is centrally organised in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Humanities. Mathematicians with different areas of specialisation and research focus are located in the faculty and participate in research and transfer projects in many fields, such as building technology, simulation models in engineering, building physics, statistical/machine learning or risk modelling in insurance and finance.
In the Bachelor's programme Business Mathematics – Actuarial Sciences, students are trained specifically for the mathematical requirements and tasks in the insurance environment in close cooperation with the German Actuarial Association (DAV) and leading companies from the insurance and reinsurance industry. Central contents include statistical (risk) modelling, data science and actuarial science. Together with companies we cover current issues through theses and other cooperations.
In the field of applied mathematics and statistics, the modification, adaptation and computer-based implementation of mathematical and statistical methods for data-based modelling, simulation and stochastic modelling of real processes are dealt with.

Digital transformation is changing society and the economy at breathtaking speed. In addition to the digitalisation of existing products and processes, entirely new business models are emerging that are increasingly becoming a critical competitive factor for industrial locations. Due to this development, Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences has an important mandate for teaching and research, whereby the following key technologies are of great importance:
- Artificial intelligence: computer systems that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, e.g. visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making and translation between languages.

- Internet of things: The Internet of Things (IoT) encompasses a variety of different methods in which sensors and actuators are used to obtain information about the state of everyday objects such as vehicles, tools and even us humans, for example.

- Robotics: Robotics aims to create intelligent machines that can interact with their environment to assist humans in a variety of ways, e.g. in production, research or everyday life.

- Cloud: Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources, especially data storage and computing power, without the users having to manage the resources themselves. In addition to the many benefits for users, cloud computing can lead to a significant reduction in IT operating costs through a "pay-as-you-go" model.

- Industry 4.0: The term Industry 4.0 describes a revolution in the way companies manufacture, improve and distribute their products. In the process, producers are integrating new technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing and analytics, as well as AI and machine learning, into their production facilities and throughout their operations.

- Digital ethics: In addition to numerous positive aspects, digitalisation also entails considerable risks for people and society. In this context, digital ethics deals with the norms and morals in the creation, organisation, dissemination and use of information.
Interdisciplinary exchange, discussion and mutual inspiration are the driving forces behind the initiative of the Rosenheim Research Group on Economics and Business. Professors and staff from all departments of the Faculty of Business Administration and other faculties regularly research current topics such as mergers&acquisitions, business valuation, market research, digital marketing, international accounting, AI, health care and sustainability.
Regular publications include the Rosenheim Economic Barometer and the series Rosenheim Papers in Applied Economics and Business Sciences.
Our research is both theoretical and application-oriented and often in cooperation with companies. The results flow into the optimisation of courses and project work and are made available to interested parties. In addition, the scientific exchange with practice is specifically promoted within the framework of events, for example the traditional Business Administration Day.
Due to the political commitment to national and international climate protection targets, there is a considerable need for action and advice on a wide range of issues relating to building technology and building physics on the part of the public sector, the building industry, energy suppliers and consumers.
Our research activities focus on building technology solutions with sustainable materials and circular reuse. Energy efficiency, energy saving, building acoustics, room acoustics, technical acoustics, noise protection, psychoacoustics, regenerative energy and building technology, solar heating and cooling are just some of the areas in which our expertise in building physics is in demand in diverse research and development projects.
In order to meet the increasing demand for specialised planning and consulting services in this field of expertise, the Master's degree programme in Building Physics was designed.
This postgraduate course combines fields of knowledge and issues of theoretical and applied building physics and is oriented towards current research questions of the participating universities. The Rosenheimer Technologiezentrum für Energie und Gebäude has state-of-the-art test benches with the latest measurement technology available for this purpose.
