About the degree programme
Scale transfer to industry
Industrial manufacturing processes form the framework for the study content in the bachelor's degree programme in chemical engineering. In addition to basic engineering and natural science subjects, students primarily learn about chemical-technological and process engineering interrelationships and build up the competence to apply them in practice. By choosing in-depth modules, students can set individual focal points, broaden their interdisciplinary perspective and acquire additional qualifications, e.g. in the field of management. Graduates of the programme qualify for attractive and future-oriented employment opportunities in one of Germany's top industries. In close cooperation with the industrial companies located in the region, laboratory practicals and practical project trials form an essential part of the curriculum. The chemical engineering programme was designed together with experts from industry. Graduates learn the complete scale-up from the laboratory to compact and pilot plants to industrial scale - an elementary advantage for later professional practice.
Course content
In the chemical engineering degree programme, students receive a sound basic education in the mathematical-scientific field with an engineering and chemical orientation.
The main focus of the study programme is on chemical-technological,
chemical-technological, process-technological and apparatus- and plant-specific knowledge is imparted.
In addition, students acquire skills in the fields of management, innovation and future technologies as well as languages and can choose industrial internships or specialise in areas of process engineering simulation or Industry 4.0. The degree programme is rounded off by interdisciplinary modules such as methodological competence, application-oriented laboratory practicals and a practical semester. These are carried out in close cooperation with industry in the Chem-Delta, so that students receive a practical and needs-based education. Within the framework of application-oriented projects, students put the theoretical knowledge and skills they have acquired into practice.
Career Opportunities
Based on a solid fundamental knowledge of the engineering sciences, graduates can also
The graduates are able to solve complex tasks in process engineering, energy and material conversion, transport processes as well as apparatus and plant engineering. In doing so, they benefit from the interdisciplinary view and the possibility of critical questioning, e.g.
- What is the best chemical route + technology?
- Is the project worthwhile and what risks should be considered?
- How can laboratory results be transferred to industrial scale?
- Is a new technology competitive?
Graduates of the chemical engineering programme have access to the following career fields, among others:
- Analytics and quality assurance
- Maintenance
- Project engineering
- Project engineering
- Industrial engineering
- Research and Development
- Approval procedures / Authority management
- Technical distribution of chemical products, process equipment & plants
- Plant construction & commissioning
Application and admission
Secure a place at university
- Start of programme: each winter semester
- Application period: from 15 April to 15 July
- The prerequisites for admission to the programme are a general higher education entrance qualification (e.g. Gymnasium), a subject-related higher education entrance qualification (e.g. Berufsoberschule) or a Fachhochschulreife (e.g. Fachoberschule). Further possible admission requirements can be found here.
- The chemical engineering degree programme has no admission restrictions, i.e. no numerus clausus. Every applicant receives a place on the programme if the general admission requirements are met.
