"Guiding the next generation of global business leaders toward adopting ethical practices and rethinking traditional approaches to business is nothing short of inspiring. During my November visit to Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences in Germany, I engaged with students in thought-provoking discussions about the critical transition from focusing solely on profit maximisation to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations."
These discussions emphasised the importance of embedding ESG into areas such as strategy, human resource management, and marketing, ensuring future leaders adopt a holistic perspective. One student insightfully remarked that “thinking interdisciplinarily within a company and its various departments creates value for the company, stakeholders, and shareholders.”
Through the modules "Sustainable Corporate Management" and "Sustainability Management and Reporting," students delved into the concepts of integrated thinking and the dismantling of siloed approaches to strategy and organisational management. They explored non-financial reporting frameworks, such as the Integrated Reporting Framework, and understood how integrated thinking operates across all business levels. Additionally, we examined the triple-bottom-line concept and its role in creating long-term value for stakeholders. This future-oriented approach to Integrated Reporting, with its strategic and multi-disciplinary lens, deepened students' appreciation of this framework's significance.
The curriculum also introduced students to non-financial disclosures concerning sustainability, including frameworks like the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), ISO standards, and the progression from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to full sustainability and sustainable development reporting. Moreover, students explored the European Sustainability Reporting Directives, gaining insights into the broader scope of reporting beyond mere financial metrics. This comprehensive understanding equips international business students with the skills to recognize the interconnectedness of ESG, ethical business practices, and financial performance—a vital perspective for the global economy and the leaders of tomorrow.
As one student shared, “I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for being such an incredible teacher. Your passion for sustainable management and integrated reporting is truly inspiring. You have this amazing ability to break down complicated ideas into something that makes sense and feels relevant. The real-world examples you shared and the way you connected theory to practice made everything so much more engaging and meaningful. It wasn't just about learning facts—it was about understanding the importance of integrated reports. I also really appreciated how you encouraged open discussions. You've not only taught me valuable skills but also inspired me to think more deeply about the impact of integrated reports. Thank you for your energy, your insights, and the way you genuinely care about what you're teaching. It's made a real difference, and I feel so lucky to have been one of your students.”
It is truly an honor to contribute to the growth and development of aspiring business leaders, fostering their ability to drive meaningful change in the world.
