International Bachelor of Engineering

The International Bachelor of Engineering is taught at the Faculty of Engineering at the Rosenheim Campus or at the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Economics at the Burghausen Campus. of TH Rosenheim. The aim of this programme is to offer an easy-entry study model and flexible choice of the right degree programme even after the start of your studies. During the common first semester, you will choose from one of the ten specialisations similar to the engineering bachelor's degree programs offered at either campus, including all required and elective modules. German language courses, practical units and internships make this study model an even better choice.

You can choose one of the following specialisations:

Universities of Applied Sciences have a very hands-on approach to studying. Therefore, the International Bachelor of Engineering includes a compulsory practical semester in which all students gain professional experience during an internship in cooperation with a regional company. Close ties to many companies in one of Germany's strongest economic regions allow for a practice-oriented study programme.We aim at connecting you with the industry at an early stage so you will be able to gain first-hand experience as easily and as quickly as possible.  

After graduation, you will have acquired the very best practical engineering knowledge, international key qualifications and you will be proficient in both German and English.

Last but not least, the cities of Rosenheim and Burghausen are not only located in close proximity to urban Munich but are surrounded by beautiful lakes based at the foothills of the Alps, offering various leisure activities.

• 1st - 3rd semester: basic studies in English with common first semester and engineering fundamentals, e.g. Mathematics, Physics, Informatics + German language courses
• 4th - 5th semester: main studies in German conforming to your specialisation
• 6th semester: practical semester in industry in Germany or abroad
• 7th - 8th semester: main studies in German conforming to your specialisation + Bachelor's thesis

Still undecided which specialisation in Engineering is right for you? The IBE curriculum is your best choice. The modular basic studies will teach you Engineering fundamentals, but keep the study programme flexible. Start your studies in any specialisation offered at Rosenheim or Burghausen, get to know the topics on-site and then decide. You can still change within specialisations offered at Campus Rosenheim in the first semester – and within specialisations offered at Campus Burghausen even during the first year.

During your main studies, elective modules and optional trainings allow you to follow your interests and gain an individual set of competences.

After having completed the first part of the International Bachelor of Engineering, the basic studies at Rosenheim or Burghausen, you are sufficiently prepared to change into the main study course. There, you will study alongside German students in one of the nine specialisations the two campuses have to offer.

Please note that the specialisations offered during the main study course are only specialisations within the IBE and not separate degree programmes!

One of the advantages of studying at TH Rosenheim is the direct link to the industry with hands-on study experience and mandatory internships. You will get to work in either a regional company or abroad. After having gained experience in German and English, you will profit from both language skills not only in an international internship setting, but in a local one as well. At the same time, you will start networking with possible employers and gain valuable knowledge to build your career on. Sometimes, an internship even leads to a job offer after graduation.

Around 1,000 young men and women are preparing for their future careers as engineers at this faculty. The Faculty of Engineering as a whole is distinguished by its outstanding practical orientation and quality in teaching in our Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes. 29 professors, 40 staff members and many lecturers from all areas of industry and business take care of the professional and comprehensive education of our students. 23 laboratories help students deepen their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. We maintain contacts with universities in Germany and abroad, with research institutions and with commercial enterprises.

The Faculty of Chemical Technology and Economics is located at Campus Burghausen and thus in the immediate vicinity of international chemical industry groups and numerous industry-related service companies. The courses offered are heavily geared to the requirements of the industry, with theory and practice linked closely. This ensures excellent career prospects. Eight professors, various lecturers and teaching staff as well as a laboratory team working in one of the six laboratories ensure that the faculty's approximately 350 students receive an excellent education -in practical application as well as through close networking with local companies.

After graduating, young electrical engineers join companies in communications technology, medical technology, automation technology or aerospace industry in the greater Munich area.

Experts in energy technology are in demand wherever energy is involved, for example in the development and/or design of energyefficient products and buildings

Industrial engineers ensure the knowledge transfer between the technical and economical pillars of industries: project management, controlling, logistics, purchasing, production, marketing and more.

For mechanical engineers, areas of employment range from mechanical engineering and plant construction over electrical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries to iron and steel or even food processing.

Future employers can be found in the precision engineering industry, automotive technology, alternative and regenerative energy technology, or in environmental and biotechnology.

Medical engineers are needed in many fields of the health care industry, including research and development of products and procedures in industrial companies or the admission of medical devices

Due to the wide range of uses for materials, plastics engineers enjoy attractive career opportunities, for example in the recycling industry. They develop sustainable solutions for the polymer industry

Graduates are employed in various fields in the chemical, pharmaceutical or food industry, such as analytics and quality assurance, project engineering, process development, or research and development.

Graduates can choose from a wide range of career opportunities, for example environmental measurement technology, waste management or air pollution control and emission protection.

Process automation engineers work on automation tasks in the process industry and have access to a variety of occupational fields, including process control engineering or project engineering for automation.

In order to apply to TH Rosenheim, you first have to apply to uni-assist to get your higher education entrance qualification checked. You will have to pay 75.00 EUR for the assessment of your certificate by uni-assist for your first desired study programme in an application semester. Each additional desired course of study in the same application semester costs 30.00 EUR. 

Then upload your preliminary review documentation (VPD) from uni-assist to the application portal of TH Rosenheim together with the other application documents. 

Applicants from certain countries, particularly non-EU ones, may require some introductory academic experience alongside their higher education entrance qualification. If that applies to you, you might have to attend a preparatory course (“Studienkolleg”) in Germany before applying to Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences. Information on Studienkollegs in Germany can be found at studienkollegs.de. 

In Bavaria, the Studienkolleg you would normally attend in order to apply to a university of applied scienes is Studienkolleg Coburg. 

In order to apply for the IBE, you will need a language level of German A2 and English B2.

The following German language tests are recognised:

• Deutsches Sprachdiplom (DSD) level 1 (GER A2/B1) or higher
• Goethe Certificate A2 or higher
• TELC Certificate German A2 or higher
• ÖSD-Certificate A2 or higher
• DSH 1 or higher
• TestDaf TN3 or higher
• Completed German language course at a university in Germany of at least 4 ECTS credits at level A2 or higher
• Certificate of examination to determine the suitability of foreign applicants to study at universities in Germany (Feststellungsprüfung)
• Completed German-language Bachelor‘s or Master‘s degree programme
• Completed German language and literature studies in Germany or abroad
• German at level A in the final certificate of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

Applicants whose native language is German are exempt from providing proof of sufficient German language skills.

The following English language tests are recognised:

• Internet-based TOEFL with 72 or more points
• TOEIC with 785 or more points
• IELTS with a band score of 6.0 or higher
• Cambridge CEFR B2 First (FCE) with Grade C (at least 160 points) or higher
• Cambridge CEFR C1 Advanced (CAE) with level B2 (at least 160 points) or higher
• TELC Certificate English B2 or higher
• Pearson PTE Academic with 60 or more points
• At least 6 years of English tuition at school with a minimum grade of “sufficient” in the final year, evidenced by a German higher education entrance qualification or an equivalent recognised higher education entrance qualification from a non-German school
• Completed English-language Bachelor‘s or Master‘s degree programme
• Completed English language and literature studies in Germany and abroad
• A grade of at least „good“ in the module ‚Technical English‘ or a comparable English language module from a previous German-language degree programme
   

Applicants whose native language is English are exempt from demonstrating sufficient English language skills.
