As part of a trip to North America at the end of October 2024, Prof Dr Carolin Fleischmann explored parts of the academic landscape in Canada and the USA. The trip, organised by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and consisting of representatives from various German universities, proved to be a productive and valuable experience for the entire group.
The trip started in Canada, which particularly impressed the delegation participants with its innovative study programmes and state-of-the-art research laboratories. Each visit to a university provided new insights and deepened international connections. Toronto Metropolitan University, University of Toronto - Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy and Humber Polytechnic hosted inspiring discussions with researchers, lecturers and internationalisation officers.
The programme then moved on to the USA, where contacts were established with leading companies and NGOs as well as universities. New avenues of cooperation were opened up through exchanges with Wayne State University, TechTown Detroit, Michigan Central & Newlab, Cornell Tech, The City University of New York and the German House in NYC.
The delegates explored exciting opportunities for student mobility, virtual exchange, research partnerships and initiatives to prepare students for their careers. As a result of the trip, Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences has already concluded its first cooperation agreements with North American universities.
Special thanks go to the Canadian and American hosts for their warm welcome, openness and valuable insights into the promotion of innovation and growth in higher education. A big thank you also to the DAAD for organising and supporting this opportunity to promote the international exchange of ideas.
