Mechatronic systems for industrial automation is the primary focus of this research area. In particular, applications related to machine tools, robotics and production equipment for the semiconductor industry are considered. A major part of the research topics addresses the execution of the desired machine axes motions at the location of the manufacturing or measuring process with high precision and high dynamics.

Interdisciplinary collaboration
In order to ensure an in-depth understanding of all components of mechatronic systems, the research focus includes professors, research assistants and students from the field of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics and computer science (Team and work environment). On the one hand, this enables targeted optimization of individual components. On the other hand, this is a prerequisite for overall continuous improvements.

The research work is always accompanied by experiments and presented at nationally and internationally renowned expert conferences (Publications). Application-oriented dimensioning of the experimental equipment ensures practice-relevant results. A large variety of professional measuring equipment is available to the research laboratory (Laboratory equipment). This leading-edge equipment allows to obtain detailed knowledge about the correlations in the systems. Products of world leading suppliers are used as software tools. This enables time-efficient progress of our research.
